For classical Judaism, the Oral Torah consists of Oral Torah revealed simultaneously at Sinai as well as enactments or laws instituted by later rabbis (d’Rabbanan). The basis or authority for the laws classified as “d’Rabbanan” and for the implementation of the observance of the commandments is derived from Deuteronomy 17:8-11.

The assertion that any individual in the present day can claim primacy over Moshe Rabbenu or over the Biblical prophets is truly unbelievable and can only lead to a chaotic spiritual environment which might reflect the picture painted in Shoftim (Judges) that “every man did what was right in his own eyes.”

So if I append “Jewish” as an adjective to the term “Messianic Judaism” is this not redundant? Well, unfortunately it appears not. The simple reality is that most groups identifying themselves under the label “messianic Jewish” are far from what is traditionally understood as Jewish.
